Dental Bridges

According to the American College of Prosthodontists, about 120 million people in this country have lost at least one adult tooth.

If you find yourself among that group, you may benefit from a dental bridge created by dentists you can trust.

At River City Dental Solutions in San Antonio, TX, dental bridges allow our patients to beam brightly. Let's guide you through the process!

What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are a type of tooth restoration that can replace one to three missing teeth in a row. Bridges consist of one or more pontics, or fake teeth, supported by dental crowns placed over the adjacent teeth. Dental implants (metal posts that are placed in the jaw) can also be used to support bridges.

Step One

Your dentist will carefully shape the abutment teeth, which are the natural teeth on either side of your missing tooth. In some cases, the gum tissue might also be modified.

Step Two

Next, they will capture a digital impression of the biting surface. That way, your bridge fits in properly with your other teeth.

Step Three

Then, it’s off to the lab! Technicians will use the data from your dentist to craft a custom bridge from materials like ceramics or porcelain and metal.

Step Four

Relief is coming! During the fitting process, which may take a few visits, you can also expect a temporary dental bridge.

Step Five

Before we place your permanent dental bridge, we’ll ensure that it fits correctly. Once we’re certain the bridge is shaped and positioned properly, we will cement it in place.

How Many Teeth Can a Dental Bridge Replace?

Dental bridges can replace anywhere from one to three teeth. Like architectural bridges, they have specific structural needs–which is why they can only span up to three teeth.

How Long Do Implants Last?

If you choose an implant bridge, there's good news: your dental implants can stand strong for decades. So, you won’t have to replace that component of your dental bridge for a long time–if ever.

Are Dental Bridges Covered by Insurance?

The exact coverage depends on your case, materials, and insurance plan. Likely, insurance will cover at least some of your costs.
